FAMILY AFFAIR: CD COMPILATION
Music is the most widely acknowledged contribution that African-Americans have made to American culture; therefore, it makes perfect sense that the art form serve as a backdrop to the persistent challenges posed by race in American society. This CD compilation will be the musical companion to the upcoming book of the same name, “Family Affair: The Black Community on Race in America.” The tracks for this CD will speak to the concerns, beliefs and attitudes that are fundamental to the African-American experience. The CD will also reaffirm the messages that underscore the essays found in the accompany book.
When words cannot adequately express concern, understanding and pain, music is able to fill the void by healing wounds and mending hearts. The goal of the Family Affair CD is to create a musical quilt for its listeners that will provide a platform for greater respect, appreciation and understanding in the African American community.
